About the Team
The Trading & Market Risk division powers the infrastructure that drives Kraken’s core trading experience. Within it, the Trading Technology team designs and maintains backend services for matching engines, market data gateways, APIs, and trading services.
This global team works in C++, Go, Rust, and Python, building low-latency, high-availability systems that support billions in daily trading volume. The team’s mission: build the internet of money through precision-engineered trading technology that scales seamlessly across markets.
Role Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer – Market Data, you will develop, optimize, and maintain the core trading engine and market data frameworks that support Kraken’s trading operations. Your work will ensure real-time performance, reliability, and scalability in a fast-moving, high-volume trading environment.
You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering and product teams to enhance system throughput, security, and availability, directly influencing the stability and growth of Kraken’s Pro platform.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain core framework components of Kraken’s trading engine.
Develop low-latency and high-availability systems for processing market data and order flow.
Implement scalable backend infrastructure for real-time trading and risk management.
Profile, optimize, and tune system performance (CPU, memory, and network).
Collaborate with global engineering teams to enhance product architecture and stability.
Ensure data integrity, security, and fault tolerance across distributed systems.
Write clean, reusable, and efficient C++ code with robust testing and documentation.
Qualifications
5+ years of professional software engineering experience with C++ (modern standards preferred).
Strong background in distributed, concurrent, and high-performance systems on Linux.
Proficiency in Python, Java, and SQL is strongly preferred.
Solid understanding of advanced order types, financial products, and trading systems.
Experience with code profiling, optimization, and system diagnostics.
Knowledge of crypto trading infrastructure or blockchain ecosystems is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical or quantitative field (Computer Science, Engineering, or related).
Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working under tight deadlines in dynamic environments.
Preferred Attributes
Experience in market data systems, order matching engines, or algorithmic trading environments.
Passion for performance optimization and ultra-low-latency development.
Familiarity with financial risk management and market microstructure concepts.
