Role Overview
As Engineering Manager for the Protocols team, you’ll lead and grow the engineers who design, build, and secure the smart contract systems powering Uniswap V4, UniswapX, and future protocol iterations.
You’ll own architecture, execution, and team culture, guiding some of the most advanced Solidity engineering in DeFi. This role requires deep expertise in Ethereum development, strong leadership skills, and a proven record of building high-assurance systems that safeguard real economic value.
Key Responsibilities
People Leadership: Hire, mentor, and grow a world-class team of smart contract engineers. Foster a security-first, high-performance culture with clear growth paths and continuous feedback.
Technical Direction: Define and oversee the architecture and roadmap for Uniswap’s Solidity-based protocols, including hooks, cross-chain features, and governance upgrades. Champion gas efficiency, modular design, and upgrade-safe patterns.
Security & Audits: Lead a rigorous secure development lifecycle (SDLC)—from threat modeling and fuzzing to formal verification and multi-stage audits. Manage external audit firms and internal red-team reviews.
Project Execution: Translate research and product goals into actionable engineering plans. Prioritize effectively to meet aggressive, cross-chain development milestones.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with teams across Product, Legal, Security, Design, and Community to ship secure, compliant, and user-focused features.
Minimum Requirements
8+ years total software engineering experience, including 3+ years building production-grade EVM smart contracts in Solidity (or low-level equivalents like Huff/Yul).
2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
Proven success deploying contracts that have held significant TVL with zero critical exploits.
Deep understanding of the EVM, DeFi mechanisms (AMMs, oracles, bridges), and smart contract security.
Experience leading formal verification, static analysis, and external audit processes.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex trade-offs to diverse stakeholders.
B.S./M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Contributions to open-source DeFi protocols or Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs).
Familiarity with Layer 2 networks, cross-chain messaging, account abstraction (ERC-4337), and zero-knowledge proofs.
Proficiency with Foundry, Hardhat, Slither, Echidna, Certora, MythX, or similar developer and audit tooling.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $360,000 – $390,000 USD
