Legal Lead, Sales & Partnerships at Block
Role Overview
You will lead and develop a high-performing team of commercial counsel and contract managers responsible for negotiating sales, partnerships, and go-to-market agreements across Block’s ecosystem (including Square, Afterpay, Cash App, Tidal, Proto, and Bitkey). You’ll define the legal strategy, partner with senior leadership, build negotiation playbooks, and anticipate emerging legal-risk vectors in new sales and partnership models.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop the team handling commercial contracts, sales and partnership negotiations.
Define and execute legal strategy aligned with business priorities and risk tolerance.
Serve as lead counsel for high-impact commercial initiatives, advising senior leadership and deal teams.
Build operational excellence: develop negotiation playbooks, refine templates, implement contract management best practices.
Collaborate cross-functionally across Sales, Partnerships, Finance, Risk, Product, Compliance, Policy.
Identify emerging legal risks in new sales and partnership models and develop solutions balancing growth and compliance.
Drive team performance: goal setting, mentorship, talent development, feedback and career growth planning.
Requirements & Qualifications
JD (or local law equivalent) and license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
10+ years of in-house experience supporting enterprise-level sales and partnerships at a high growth technology, fintech, or SaaS company.
Demonstrated leadership experience: managing or mentoring legal professionals, influencing cross-functional teams.
Significant experience structuring, drafting, and negotiating enterprise commercial contracts including strategic partnerships and platform integrations.
Expertise in risk allocation, data privacy, intellectual property, commercial compliance across global transactions.
Strong collaboration skills, high-growth mindset, attention to detail, an ability to operate in a fast-moving environment.
