The Kraken Pro team builds and maintains the core trading and markets infrastructure that powers Kraken’s professional exchange. The team manages critical systems including authentication, account management, user statistics, and the low-latency trading engine that drives Kraken’s performance and reliability.

This global, distributed team operates across multiple technology stacks, with a strong focus on Rust for backend systems.

Role Overview

As a Senior Engineering Manager – Pro, you’ll lead and mentor a high-performing team of engineers responsible for core framework and trading systems development. You’ll drive the design of scalable, high-availability architectures, manage roadmap execution, and ensure Kraken continues to deliver world-class trading performance for millions of users.

This role blends technical leadership, product strategy, and hands-on architectural oversight, requiring strong collaboration across engineering, product, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a distributed team of engineers developing Kraken’s Pro trading platform.

• Oversee the design and implementation of microservices in Rust.

• Build solutions that enhance security, performance, and risk mitigation.

• Architect low-latency, high-volume, fault-tolerant systems for global trading operations.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with product and platform teams to meet key roadmap milestones.

• Maintain engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, and performance benchmarking.

• Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering.

• 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams (4–8 members).

• Strong experience writing network services or asynchronous systems in Rust.

• Proven ability to lead teams in distributed environments and manage cross-functional collaboration.

• Deep understanding of scalable systems architecture and concurrency patterns.

• Exceptional communication, prioritization, and leadership skills.

• Passion for solving complex technical challenges in performance-critical systems.

Nice to Haves

• Previous experience in trading, financial markets, or fintech environments.

• Familiarity with high-frequency trading systems, risk management, or order book architectures.
